A new research lab, sponsored by NTID, will soon open to help scientists learn more about cognition, language, and perception in infants and young children.  

New machine learning techniques developed by scientists at Rochester Institute of Technology are revealing important information about how pulsars—rapidly rotating neutron stars—behave. In a new study published by Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, the researchers outlined their new techniques and how they applied to study Vela, the brightest radio pulsar in the sky.

In 2001, the dot-com bubble was bursting and investors had lost confidence in internet companies. Twenty years later, data has become a new currency, and people can access just about anything from their smartphones. Throughout all these changes, Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences has evolved into the largest college at RIT, with more than 4,600 students this year. Since its creation 20 years ago, GCCIS has awarded more than 14,000 degrees—in a growing number of computing disciplines.

Saunders College of Business will launch a new sports and entertainment management minor this spring. The minor will focus on the business and management of sports and entertainment organizations and provide students with applied skills in business strategy, analytics, customer service, negotiations, and event and venue management.

Some 200 RIT students, faculty, and staff spent part of their Giving Tuesday preparing 20,000 healthy meals for the community during the Hunger Project in the Gordon Field House.

TechCrunch features a partnership between RIT and geospatial data startup Hydrosat in which RIT will help with data calibration.

Dorin Patru and Linlin Chen, faculty-researchers at RIT, received a grant from the National Science Foundation to upgrade functions of programmable memory. They, along with colleagues from University of Rochester, will develop new algorithms to improve the internal computing memory system to enable scalable and more robust performance.

RIT has received a Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) Challenge grant to help people underrepresented in the computing workforce launch new careers in cybersecurity.

More than 100 thought leaders and executives from around the world—including South Korea, Japan, and Europe—gathered virtually Oct. 20-21 for the RIC-RIT World Remanufacturing Conference, which featured the latest information on emerging trends and issues of critical importance to the remanufacturing industry.  

The Image Permanence Institute at RIT has received a National Leadership Grant award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services that will identify critical preservation challenges associated with 3D printed materials and technologies found in museums and develop resources that will support 3D printed object preservation.

RIT students are already benefitting from a new partnership with Garth Fagan Dance, with RIT Performing Arts Scholarship students taking master classes downtown and students working on a semester-long arts management capstone project to deliver suggestions for the internationally known dance company to potentially implement.
