Rochester-based business consultant and former Xerox executive Katherine O’Brien has been hired as the newest coach at RIT’s Venture Creations technology business incubator. Her expertise is in strategic and tactical planning, product design and commercialization, process improvement, business development, research and development, sales and marketing and project and program management.

American Packaging Corp. renews support for packaging science program with gift
Funding from the long-time corporate partner will support two innovative packaging centers at RIT: the American Packaging Corp. Center for Packaging Innovation, a comprehensive teaching, research and testing laboratory; and the Center for Sustainable Packaging. Both centers are located in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology.

Saunders College of Business will welcome more than 600 local high school students to the RIT campus for the New York State Region 10 DECA competition on Dec. 19. Students will present business plans to local business leaders who will serve as the competition’s judges.

World’s best cybersecurity colleges battle at pentesting competition finals in Rochester
RIT hosted the international finals of the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC) Nov. 22-24. Stanford University took home the top trophy in the 2019 competition, while RIT placed second and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona placed third.

RIT/NTID-developed app enhances accessibility for museum visitors on self-guided tours
The app, known as MUSEAI, is a new self-guided tour platform designed to enhance accessibility for all visitors in museums. Visitors use the app by inputting a number that is placed next to the artwork, which provides them with the description, historical facts, media (video/audio) with captions, audio descriptions and more.

Carestream makes donation to RIT’s ultrasound program
The donation includes four premier and mid-tier ultrasound systems, transducers, simulators and related devices. The addition to the RIT sonography scanning suite enables students to practice on different models before beginning their clinical internships.
