Lucie Le Scolan came to RIT from Rennes, France, on a study abroad trip last fall as a graduation requirement for her former school. Once she completed her five-year engineering diploma, she decided to return to RIT for her master’s degree in engineering management.

Last summer, Bolaji Thomas, professor in the College of Health Sciences and Technology, took a group of students to Nigeria to give them a firsthand look at the impact of malaria on global health. Student Spotlight: Exploring engineering through Hot Wheelz team
RIT Hot Wheelz is a student-run Formula SAE Hybrid racing team that offers hands-on experience for female-identifying students interested in learning more about racing vehicles. Hannah Sones, a second-year industrial engineering major from Medina, N.Y., joined the team during her first semester at RIT.

Student Spotlight: Pursuing research opportunities in Germany
Alexandria Shumway was selected to do research abroad over the summer through the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) RISE program, or German Academic Exchange Service. Through this program, the fifth-year bioinformatics and computational biology (BS) and bioinformatics (MS) student traveled to Kiel, Germany, to complete her research at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel.

Next spring and summer, as college students enjoy a well-deserved break from their studies, dozens of RIT students will be restoring hiking trails, helping preserve wetlands, rebuilding communities ravaged by natural disasters and, for the first time, interacting with community members to better understand issues such as food and social justice as part of the Alternative Break program.

Looking to learn more about the roots of American deaf culture, fourth-year student Grace Bradford went on a study abroad trip to France. From June 24 to July 4, the ASL/English interpretation and School of Individualized Study double major traveled with other NTID students to Paris, Reims, La Balme-les-Grottes and Lyon.
