COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY - "Tigers Bring Joy"

Community Service Day organized by Zagreb freshmen took place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Športsko Rekreativni Centar Trnje (ŠRC Trnje). The main idea of the event was to make the children from "Dječji Domovi Zagreb" happy and active, and also to remind them that there is someone who is thinking about them. Students had a lot of games on the event - football, basketball, polygon race, badminton, volleyball and some board games. The teams were made up of a mix of children and RIT Croatia students in order for them to communicate more during the games. By mixing the children with the students, the students had the opportunity to share their studying experiences and encourage the children to work hard and go to college. There were a lot of student volunteers, professors and children and in total it was around 80 people.

As everyone gets hungry after doing sports, students made sure to have enough food and beverages so everyone would stay happy and satisfied. Besides taking care of food, students made sure to have music as well, which really lived up the atmosphere. There was also a firefighters' show where the firefighters demonstrated their training routine. They showed the equipment that they use to put out small fires and gave students and children had the opportunity to try them out. Of course, it turned into a big, funny "war" where a lot of the volunteers ended up soaking wet but with an enormous smile on their face.

"Working on this project was really stressful, but it was completely worth it. Seeing a smile on a child's face erased all the stress and bad feelings I had while worrying whether everything was going to be okay. Organizing it was difficult and it lasted for months, but it resulted with an amazing event that definitely filled out all my expectations. We had a lot of fun, and I hope all our charity events in the future will be as amazing as this one", said Matea Cvijanović, a freshman student at the IT program in Zagreb.
