RIT Croatia Dubrovnik's students, faculty and staff celebrated the World Quality Day on November 10, 2016. Students enrolled in Assessing and Improving Service Quality course, taught by prof. Milena Kužnin, were in charge of organizing and delivering variety of events and activities with the purpose of raising the awareness on the importance of QUALITY in our busy lives. From importance of employee wellness to creativity to social and informal events to giving back to community - the students tried to make all stakeholders "happy".
"This type of an activity completely run by us, students, engages us beyond the classroom experience and motivates us to do and be more than just students. We learn hands on about the Service Value Chain and the quality concepts learned in class", said Mariela Kralj, junior year student.
Prof. Kužnin stresses the importance of learning by doing, and the value of mutual support for success and creation of the common goal that students exhibited throughout the day. "Not only did they enjoy the celebration but they felt proud of the accomplishments and many of them even went beyond the expected without any extrinsic motivation", commented prof. Kužnin.
This day was chosen to also mark the establishment of the first ever Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) Honorary Society. ESD recognizes the scholastic and professional achievements of students in hospitality and tourism around the world. Membership in the organization sets students apart in the eyes of educators, recruiters, and industry professionals through providing networking, leadership, and community service opportunities. ESD is the international society that celebrates excellence, leadership, creativity, service and ethics among undergraduate students in hospitality programs and is a part of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).
And finally, the students did not forget the community as well. More than 600,00 kn were raised by various events (from make your own cake to traditional "Tombola")and will be given to "Centar za rehabilitaciju Josipovac" in Dubrovnik.
The students would like to thank all faculty, staff and sponsors for making the celebration a success.
