Each year, our Freshmen students research the local causes in their respective communities that need help and support. Then they choose a cause and organize a Community Service Day to support it. Mentored by their professor Ana Maria Šimundić, this year's Zagreb Freshmen Executive Committee included 7 students who decided to organize a volunteering and charity event for Noina Arka (Noah's Arc) animal shelter. The event took place on Saturday, March 24th in two locations - the Arc shelter in Dumovec and its infirmary at the Zagreb University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The record number of 90 students, faculty and staff spent a day walking dogs, grooming cats, cleaning cages, organizing supplies, clearing out trees and shrubs in order to extend the parking lot, etc. In addition to that, the students raised 3,000 HRK that will be donated to Noina Arka.

"We can be proud that this year's Community Service Day registered a record number of students," said one of the organizers, a student Kristina Livaja and added: "The atmosphere was great, time served us and everything went smoothly. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I thank all of the donors, our sponsors Konzum as well as Cristel Carrisi and of course Noina Arka for welcoming and supporting us! We are sure we all will remember this event for a long time."

Professor Šimundić shared her satisfaction as well: "It was a special day and it goes to show that when we all come together, for a great cause, how much can be accomplished. The group at Noina Arka was impressed with the amount of work that got done and would like everyone to know that we are invited back any time in the future."

And last but not least, a big thank you and kudos goes to the following students who invested a lot of time and effort into pulling this event together: Lucija Baric, Iva Bosnjak, Cristel Carrisi, Leda Livada, Kristina Livaja, Anja Pankretic, Tea Polic, and Paula Pufek.
