    Cadets in RIT's ROTC program have been marking the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks since 2012. In addition to planting American flags in the lawn near the Sentinel, Taps is played at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m., and 10:03 a.m. as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the four terrorist attacks in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and in Pennsylvania.     Mark Davitt, founding CEO of ConServe, was named the 2021 recipient of the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award, presented by Saunders College of Business at RIT during a celebratory luncheon at Locust Hill Country Club on Sept. 8.

    The Rochester Red Wings baseball team partnered with RIT/NTID and Rochester School for the Deaf to host the second Deaf Culture Day at Frontier Field on Sept. 2. The night featured a “silent inning,” and The Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America performed in sign language, along with other activities. The Red Wings played as the Plates, wearing American Sign Language jerseys. Here, NTID President Gerry Buckley throws the first pitch.

    Gloria DuPree, right, a service desk analyst for ITS, and her sister joined some 2,000 RIT staff and faculty members and their families at Employee Appreciation Day at Seabreeze Amusement Park on Tuesday. In addition to full access to the rides and water slides, RIT has a picnic area reserved for lunch and dinner and includes free musical entertainment. The Seabreeze days continue today and Aug. 18 and 19. Registration for next week’s dates closes on Friday. For more information, go to rit.edu/seabreeze.

    Rochester Community Players presents Shakespeare in the Park in the Highland Bowl July 9-25. The Tempest is directed by Luane Davis Haggerty, principal lecturer in NTID's Department of Performing Arts.

    The men’s lacrosse team capped off an undefeated season earning the program’s first NCAA title. RIT senior midfielder Ryan Barnable scored the game-winning goal as the Tigers earned a 15-14 double-overtime victory over Salisbury in the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship game May 30 at Rentchler Field in East Hartford, Conn.

    More than 4,100 RIT students in the Class of 2021 graduated this weekend. The students wore regalia, walked across a stage, and were acknowledged by administrators for their milestone achievements. Due to state COVID-19 occupancy restrictions, commencement this year was held in small ceremonies, most by college, at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center and Gene Polisseni Center.
