    Students arriving on the RIT campus this semester have a variety of activities awaiting them, including outdoor concerts, individual fitness pods, clubs, volunteer and leadership opportunities, intramurals and more. Last week, first-year students began orientation, where students were welcomed in small groups to tour the campus, watch outdoor movies, and sample fare from food trucks.

    A self-driving miniature car race was held at RIT March 4. Student coders from RIT, MCC and University of Rochester competed to see who could program the fastest Amazon Web Services (AWS) DeepRacer car. The challenge was run by RIT and EagleDream Technologies.

    Middle and high school students participated in Family Day during National Engineers Week to explore careers in engineering, including a workshop on robots. RIT is one of hundreds of universities and organizations across the country involved in the national program led by Discover E.

    Rochester Prep High School seniors Sandra Rodriquez, left; Mohammed Amadi; and Zabari Phillip, right, presented their project, “Monster Doctor,” an interactive game about a surgeon with unusual patients, at the RIT-RPHS Partnership Capstone Showcase on Feb. 12. Fourteen seniors from Rochester Prep High School presented their projects on topics that also included explorations in health care fields, photojournalism, civic engagement and microbiology. The RIT-RPHS Partnership is a collaboration that began in 2013 through a gift from Ron Zarrella, an RIT and RPHS trustee. Rochester Prep High school is a local charter high school within the Uncommon Schools charter network.

    “De’VIA: Manifesto Comes of Age” exhibition at the University of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery featured work from the permanent collection of RIT/NTID’s Dyer Arts Center. De’VIA represents a name from American Sign Language meaning Deaf View/Image Art.
