The highlight of the ceremony was a procession of preschool students singing "Happy Anniversary, Margaret’s House."

    Ray Winter, a second-year mechanical engineering student from RIT’s Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, kicks off the school year with the seventh annual "Pole Sit" fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sept. 5-8. Fraternity members took turns sitting atop a 40-foot pole installed by Rochester Gas & Electric, and hosted other events including a car smash, dunk tank, concert, fireworks display and cookout.

    A paper airplane design and flight contest highlighted Engineering Day 2001 for more than 400 first-year students in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering on Sept. 4. Students learned design tips from Boeing Co. project engineer Ken Blackburn, holder of the record, in the Guinness Book of World Records, for the longest-duration paper airplane flight, 27.6 seconds, set in 1998.
