Job Description:
The Deaf Advocate/Sign Language Program Manager is responsible for
representing Avodah to the Deaf community.  He/she will communicate the
policies and issues that affect the Deaf community on a local, statewide, and
national level. The Deaf Advocate will serve as the point person at Avodah
for system changes that affect the Deaf community.



Requirements:
•	Fluent in ASL
•	Familiarity with medical sign language resources
•	Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point),
and Adobe Acrobat
•	Outstanding organizational, project management and time management skills
with ability to meet deadlines
•	Successfully manage multiple tasks and projects at one time
•	Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive work
relationships with others
•	Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
•	Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
•	Creativity and comfort in dealing with a wide range of diverse
individuals and situations
•	Strong English writing skills and ability to effectively communicate via
email
•	Excellent leadership skills, ability to think creatively
•	Ability to work a flexible schedule
•	Skills associated with providing video captions or similar abilities to
build accessibility to sign language
•	Minimum Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Communications preferred - life
experience may be substituted for education relates to Medical Translation
and Interpretation Services
•	Three or more years of documented experience in translation from written
English to ASL
•	Worked with or has experience working with a medical sign interpreter
•	Experience in a combined hearing/Deaf work or educational environment
preferred
•	Knowledge of relevant issues and laws protecting the rights of Deaf
individuals
•	Fluent in ASL, English and Deaf communication equipment
•	Experience and cultural competence working in the Deaf community at large
•	Experience promoting and advocating for the full integration of
individuals with disabilities including the Deaf, hard of hearing, and
Deaf-blind communities
