Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices (SARP), the Sexual Misconduct Response and Prevention Coordinator (Student Accountability Coordinator) initiates and direct student support and case management following reported incidents of Title IX and Sexual Misconduct violations.

Sexual Misconduct Response

Provides support and leadership to the development of a specific type of informal processes designed for Title IX and Sexual Misconduct cases; and coordinates and administers educational outreach on sexual assault prevention and response for students in partnership with campus departments and organizations on topics of sexual and interpersonal violence.

Serves as the case manager for the student sexual misconduct and Title IX cases by regularly monitoring incoming incidents; meets with assigned complainants and respondents to provide information regarding the University’s Sexual Misconduct and Title IX options, available resources, and supportive measures; utilizes effective communication techniques to guide and support students, staff, faculty, advisors, and parents as necessary in navigating policies, procedures, and resources.

Investigates and helps to ensure timely resolution of assigned reports of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, relationship violence, stalking, and other related violations involving students of the University community.

Coordinates interviews, analyzes statements, makes credibility assessments, drafts and presents the investigation report of facts, and prepares case files including supporting documents for the sexual misconduct panel hearing as appropriate; and compiles appropriate supporting documents related to the resolution of each matter, including but not limited to, written statements, incident reports, and other relevant correspondence, and shares the final report while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of the investigation.

Assists the Director, in concert with university stakeholders, with developing and evaluating educational processes rooted in a restorative justice approach that accomplish the University’s resolution to harms caused by sexual harassment and related violations.

Ensures that all restorative interventions are documented; and assists the Director with tracking the impact over time through data collection and analysis.

Administers the Maxient student conduct database for sexual misconduct and Title IX complaints; ensures that information is accurate and that cases are resolved promptly; and assists the Director with the preparation and maintenance of statistical, demographic, and subject matter related to Sexual Misconduct and Title IX complaints and trends on an annual basis and as needed.

Works closely with the Student Affairs and Academic Affairs personnel, the Department of Public Safety, and other university departments to assure appropriate disposition of Sexual Misconduct and Title IX complaints.

Maintains and advances individual and collective knowledge and awareness of federal and state guideline and regulations relevant to sexual misconduct, Clery, VAWA, Title IX, and other relevant laws and regulations; and assists the Director in ensuring institutional compliance with relevant federal and local laws such as the Clery Act, FERPA, VAWA, Title IX and other relevant laws and policies; and disseminates information related to these relevant federal and local laws to the campus community as appropriate.

​Campus Community Prevention Outreach & Education

Partners with the Director on developing, coordinating, and maintaining a comprehensive offering of co-curricular prevention programs and opportunities that include primary and secondary prevention strategies, bystander intervention, and risk reduction on topics of sexual and interpersonal violence. This includes development of new programs and content relevant to Gallaudet students.

Develops and implements educational materials and campaigns such as brochures, posters, fliers, public service announcements, infographics, PowerPoints, trainings, websites, and social media content on the topics of sexual and interpersonal violence and healthy relationships.

Enhances current training for faculty, staff, and students to include trauma-informed response, self-care, and awareness of resources.

Fosters positive working relationships with the Department of Public Safety, Residence Life and Housing, Athletics, Counseling and Psychological Services, and others associated with student sexual misconduct and/or Title IX cases on campus as applicable to the position; and may serve on departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees as applicable to the position.

Identifies and integrates best practices in the field of sexual misconduct, Title IX, and restorative practices; stays abreast of current developments in the field of Title IX, student misconduct and restorative practices by maintaining professional membership in and participating in relevant conferences, webinars, workshops, and other membership subscriptions.

Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.

Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

Performs related and other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications (When the candidate’s resume meets these qualifications, it will be screened in):

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, or related human behavior field.

A minimum of three years of professional experience with student affairs, student development, mental health, residence life, student conduct, Title IX, or other related areas.

Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications (While not required, it is an advantage for what the position needs):

Master’s degree.

Experience working in an institution of higher education, especially in a Residence Life setting, student conduct, or related role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Qualities that will help the incumbent be more successful in the position):

Strong knowledge of federal laws, state laws, and mandates including Title IX of the Higher Education Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, American Disabilities Act, Higher Education Act of America, Jeanne Clery Act, and the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act.

Strong experience in working with organizations to deliver services to survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking.

Strong experience facilitating restorative practices processes.

Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing and investigation.

Excellent rapport skills and strong writing skills.

Excellent ability to self-direct and prioritize multiple projects using strong organizational skills.

Excellent ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures consistently.

Excellent awareness of the current issues in higher education related to student misconduct and Title IX.

Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures, commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience collaborating and supporting diverse communities.

Other Important Information:

This position is expected to report to work on campus. However, there may be opportunities for a hybrid work schedule based on performance and the needs of the department or the University.
