Located in the Colorado foothills, Rocky Mountain Deaf School is a high performing school providing education in American Sign Language in a Preschool through 12 grade campus. RMDS is seeking a highly motivated and innovative teacher of the Deaf to become part of a team dedicated to inspire every deaf student to think, to learn, to achieve and to care!
Team members are responsible for instructing students in elementary grades. Creating instructional resources for use in the classroom. Creating lesson plans, instructing students on core subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creating a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional preparedness based on the Rocky Mountain Deaf School curriculum.
Teaching responsibilities include:
*Plan and implement effective instructional practices that maximize student learning.
*Follow a system of continuous evaluation of student progress consistent with established instructional objectives and school policy by using a variety of assessment techniques and applying results to lesson planning.
*Create an inclusive classroom environment using individualized instruction to assist students with varying needs.
*Apply a wide variety of instructional techniques, including student-centered learning, learning through play, cooperative learning, and instructional media to promote learning.
*Develop and maintain a class environment conducive to effective learning.
*Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to: ability to work at children’s level, ability to change diapers, assist with toileting needs, respond to child’s safety needs, and assist at nap time if applicable, bending and stooping when engaging with the student.
*Serve as an active member of our professional learning community. Collaborating with other educators on teams to provide an effective instructional program.
*Communicate often with families regarding student progress.
*Maintain professional growth.
*Engage in action research for continuous improvement of instruction.
*Complete and follow IEP for each student assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
*Master’s degree in Deaf Education.
*Colorado Standard or Provisional Teaching Licensure, with a Deaf Education endorsement (required by September 1, of the year hired)
*Colorado Standard or Provisional Teaching Licensure, with a Deaf Education endorsement
*Fluency of written English required
*Fluency in American Sign Language required
*Knowledge of special education preferred
