We are in a transformative age in entertainment. New technologies and distribution platforms are changing the way consumers engage with movies, television, games and new media – disrupting the traditional business models and creating new markets.
This immersive nine-day non-credit academic program offers students an experience, in the heart of the entertainment industry, to examine the business aspects of the entertainment ecosystem and the transformative trends that are driving innovation in production, visual effects, storytelling, AI and immersive experiences.
Led by former Disney executive Tom Connor, students will interact with working industry professionals through guest lectures, industry visits to production companies and organizations to get first-hand experiences and insights into what it means to be a creative business professional in entertainment.
PART 1: The Business of Entertainment
An insider’s look at how the entertainment industry works. Special emphasis will be placed on the economic and consumer forces that influence the creation and distribution of creative content.
Topics may include:
- The Entertainment Ecosystem
- The Effects of Disruption from Consumer Behavior & Technology
- The Movie Business
- TV & Streaming
- Games, Esports & Interactive Experiences
- Theme Parks & Live Events
PART 2: Transformative Trends in Entertainment
New technologies and platforms that are changing the way filmmakers create content and the ways consumers experience these innovations.
Topics may include:
- Revolutionizing Production with Previs & Virtual Production
- The Role of Big Data, Algorithms and AI in Entertainment
- Transmedia Storytelling: Franchising in Entertainment
- Immersive Entertainment Experiences
- The Next Wave of Innovation
Program Fee: $3,300USD
The program fee includes:
- Tuition for the nine-day, eight-night non credit program
- Orientation
- Accomodations from January 3 to January 11, 2025
- Group meals
- Professional visits and cultural excursion
- Transportation for program activities.
Please Note: Students should plan on additional costs for daily meals and personal miscellaneous spending. Program does not include cost of airfare, transportation to and from the airport, health insurance, travel insurance, or visitor visa costs.
Payment: To confirm your placement in this program, a non-refundable deposit of $300 USD is due by October 28, 2024. The remaining balance of $3,000 USD will be due no later than December 2, 2024.
Visa: You will need to obtain a Visitor B1/B2 or ESTA depending on your citizenship and country of residence. A Letter of Invitation will be provided by RIT.
If you are a new Global Scholar starting in the Spring, you do not need a visitor visa. You may enter the U.S. before the start date listed on your I-20.
If you are a current Global Scholar, you can also enter the U.S. using your existing F-1 visa, as long as both your I-20 and F-1 visa remain valid for the Spring semester.
