Overview

The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Saunders College of Business and the Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) School of Economics and Management began its strategic international partnership in 2012.  Recently celebrating its 120th year, Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), is one of the three original Jiaotong universities. In 2015, RIT was BJTU’s first international partner committed to delivering joint degree programs at its new Weihai location, and one of many renowned international partners offering graduate degree and exchange partnership programs at the Beijing campus.

Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) grew out of the Beijing Railway Management Institute. The University was China's first institution for education in railway management and telecommunication technologies. Until now it has remained closely connected with the nation's railway industry with faculty and staff contributing greatly to the expansion of China's railways. In over 100 years, BJTU has achieved distinction in a range of academic programs and is known for developing their student’s sense of innovation.

BJTU's main campus is located in Beijing with two campuses in the Haidian District, covering almost 667 square meters. The main campus provides facilities for 14 academic schools with almost 3,000 faculty and staff. It also includes two libraries with spaces for individual and group studying and approximately 300 computers. Classroom facilities hold anywhere from 30 to 200 students and include smart-classroom technology. There is also a stadium as well as student life facilities.

In 2015, BJTU opened a new campus in Weihai, China, on the east end of the Shandong peninsula, 5.5 km from the yellow sea. As the inaugural international partner at the Weihai campus, RIT and BJTU offer a joint B.S. degree in Management Information Systems to over 300 students.
